As holiday season is approaching , make your holidays eco-friendly. as India is a region of different festivals, place. it is a home to people of many religions caste and race.
India is a land of festivals and fairs, big number of festivals are celebrated here. As we feast give gifts , decorate and travel during holiday season, we also consume lots of resources and generate lots of waste. yeah it is good to have celebrations , get together but let us make it eco-friendly. let us go green this holiday season. it feels good when we say India is a home to every race every religion , people from all religions live with a feeling of togetherness. each and every festival is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm. but simultaneously it feels bad to hear that India’s air is unhealthiest air among all countries , India is third largest polluted country in world.
we should celebrate holidays WITH GREAT ZEAL but being eco-friendly and do not harming nature
let us start analyzing on which festival how nature is affected. starting from the main festivals diwali , the first word which comes to mind Firecrackers! and Just the term creates joy and excitement in not only children’s mind even elders too get excited. The heart flutters with thrill and enthusiasm developed by the sight those colorful showers and sparkles from the fireworks in the sky. But the fact is we only see the sight which is shown to eyes not the after affect of that. those crackers have an adverse affect on our nature. the smoke produced pollutes the air a lot and makes it unhealthy for breathing. the asthmatic patients suffer a lot.
and even that smoke affects eyes too. and the behind scenes the small children working for making these crackers instead of going to schools they make crackers for our fun. coming to the next one the holi festival …the festival of colours..this festival fills colors in everybody’s life but holi is more played with water then that of gulaal . there is a lot wastage of water. having fun is good but the side affects can not be ignored . and if we see not only in India in united states The amount of household garbage can increase by 25 percent between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, from 4 million tons to 5 million tons. on teej festival the paper wasted for making kites. obviously if festive season is going on then lots of gifts are being given and taken to relatives and close friends behind which many trees are being cut for paper..a large amount of paper is used in packaging.for giving gifts we have to go to meet our relatives to give them best wishes for the festivals and we go to their places by vehicles so a lot of petrol is also used and we all know at how much peak its rates are. now a days holidays have a bad affect on our resources. The holidays are special, but this year’s festivities don’t have to negatively impact our environment.
then comes a question mark what to do to make our holidays green.. ? what to do to make our holidays eco friendly. There are a number of measures that all of us can take to lessen the amount of trash. here are the tips to make your holidays green.
• Turn off or unplug holiday lights during the day. Doing so will not only save energy, but will also help your lights last longer. on diwali instead of candles lights are used . which keep on lightning whole day. they could be turned off during the day.
• Thousands of paper and plastic shopping bags are used every year. Reduce the number of bags thrown out by reusing them or by bringing jute bags for holiday gift shopping. there is a very wide variety of jute bags now a days . fashion industry too is emphasizing on being eco friendly.
• Wrap gifts in recycled or reused wrapping paper or newspapers instead of using polythene gift wraps use hand made papers. Also remember to save or recycle used wrapping paper.
• If you host a party, set the table with cloth napkins and reusable dishes, glasses, and silverware.
• Think “green” while going for shopping. buy those items which are recyclable or reusable. buy biodegradable products . check whether the product made is recyclable or not.
• as electronics industry has developed a lot we can use energy efficient led strings to rather than the larger, old fashioned lights. light emitting diodes are cheaper than those big bulbs and are more efficient they use consume less electricity as compared to other lights as they illuminate because of photoelectric effect i.e movement of electrons due to excitement given to them by applying energy,, and now these diodes are available in all colours. light emitting diodes use up to 90% less energy than an incandescent bulb to produce the same amount of light. if we consider an epitome, the amount of electricity consumed by just one 7-watt incandescent bulb could power 140 LED’s.
• use deep freezed food for parties. use processed food so as to reduce the usage of kitchen resources.
• when you go for shopping take your own bags with you so shops won’t have to give you new ones with your purchases. If using a plastic bag, be sure to bring it back to the store for recycling next time you go.
• prefer to go to those shops which are nearer that will prevent fuel consumption. When you need to drive, combine several errands into one trip or travel in groups.
festivals are very important part of life as they bring joy, fun and prosperity. Moreover festivals are related with religious beliefs of people. but people should be aware that the resources are consumed to high extent. advertisements should be there in remote
areas to tell them to use resources efficiently. in today’s advanced era there are a lot of ways to reach common people and tell themhow to make our world a better place to live in.
