In our busy day-to-day life the one thing we neglect the most is our health. In the morning while rushing to college or work we tend to skip the most important meal of the day-breakfast. Or when we come back late at night, tired and exhausted, what do we do? We go straight to bed, not bothering about dinner at all. But is this the right way to go?

We fail to realise how much we are compromising on our health and well being by skipping meals. This may seem like a minor slack now, but a few years later when we are no longer in our prime, this carelessness on our part would soon catch up on us. Weak bones, cholesterol, diabetes, heart problems, asthma, arthritis are just a few ailments which will begin to rear their ugly heads. To avoid this from happening we have to act now.

While missing out on meals can’t always be helped due to time constraints, there is an alternative that can work just as good- these are called health drinks. If we incorporate health drinks in your diet, the tiredness that you feel at work or the lack of energy would all seem like things of the past. Health drinks supply vitamins, proteins and other necessary nutrients to the body. It replenishes the body and mind to keep it healthy and strong. It invigorates our senses and keeps us going all day long. Health drinks should ideally be consumed in the morning for maximum efficiency.

It is a common misperception that any food that has to do with health is bland and tasteless. But it is not so. If made correctly, health drinks can be quite tasty. So not only are we stocking up on nutrients, but we are also not compromising on the taste.

Health drinks can be made at home in just a few minutes. We have to stock up on veggies and fruits to make some delicious smoothies or health drinks. The great thing about health drinks is that we can experiment with the ingredients and mix them up every day. Here are a few recipes of some mouth-watering health drinks, each designed to address different issues of the body.

  1. Apple and papaya juice (for glowing skin)
  • Things you will need- a blender, 2 chopped apples, one small diced papaya, sugar and salt (for seasoning)
  • What to do?

Just mix the apple and papaya in a blender until smooth. Add one tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt. Consume immediately. Mix up the ingredients once in a while. You can use coconut water with the apples or even better, cucumber juice that helps detoxify the skin. Carrots can also be added to the mixture as it has a lot of vitamin A which is good for the skin. If you want to include vitamin C in your diet, mix orange with the papaya and add a few drops of lemon juice to the concoction.

  1. Banana smoothie ( for energy)
  • Things you will need- a blender, two bananas, dry almonds( handful), 1 cup soy milk ( or whole milk), half cup yogurt, 1 teaspoon honey and ice cubes( optional).
  • What to do?

Add the milk and yoghurt to the bananas in the blender. Blend well until smooth. Put in the honey and ice cubes. This drink will keep you energized all day long.

  1. Honey and lemon drink (for weight loss)

  • Things you will need- lukewarm water, 2 teaspoon honey and one whole lemon
  • What to do?

Blend the honey with the lukewarm water. Then squeeze out the juice of a lemon and consume it immediately. Honey is great for your health and skin. Not only that, the combination of lemon and honey will make you lose weight fast and easy. You can add a small quantity of ginger to the drink for added benefit. If you have tropical fruits like a water melon lying around the house, the juice of water melon also works well as a low-fat health drink. You can add fresh vegetables like cabbage or carrots with the melon. Put in a pinch of cinnamon for enhanced taste.

  1. Avocado and beetroot recipe ( for good memory and brain power)
  • Things you will need- a blender, half an avocado, one beetroot, small quantity of spinach and one medium sized carrot. Also needed are honey and ice (optional).
  • What to do?

One by one, put the avocado, beetroot, spinach, carrot and honey in the blender. Blend till smooth. Pour in a glass and add the ice cubes. This drink is rich in iron, zinc and oleic acid that get your brain charged in no time. This drink is especially beneficial for children.

There are numerous other recipes that you can make for different occasions. To beat the heat, prepare a mango or watermelon smoothie that is refreshing and replenishing. Don’t forget to add lots of ice. There are also certain health drinks that help fight cholesterol, depression or vitamin deficiencies.
